eBOX - Important changes (April 2024)

We would like to inform you about an important technical change of the companies in liquidation CCT Abwicklungs GmbH and CCS Abwicklungs AG and present you simple alternative solutions for existing charging boxes.

This information is relevant for the following main product:

  • eBOX smart, eBOX smart cable

As well as for products set up privately via eCHARGE+:

  • eBOX professional, eBOX professional cable
  • eBOX touch, eBOX touch cable

This information is not relevant:

  • Not for eBOXes that are set up for company car drivers
  • Not for eBOXes that are already connected to a backend

Reconfigure your private eBOX by April 21. How to do this? Instructions and examples can be found here.
Save your charging history up to April 21, 2024; the charging details are only archived until June 30, 2024.

The eBOX hardware series is smart thanks to its connection to any OCPP-capable backend. Only when connected to a backend does a wallbox become more than just a socket.

In March 2023, Compleo Charging Solutions AG (now: CCS Abwicklungs AG), as a hardware manufacturer, reduced its portfolio and focused exclusively on charging hardware for commercial applications. The eBOX smart/smart cable product has no longer been manufactured since 01.03.2023.

As of 25.03.2024, it will no longer be possible to recommission the eBOX for private charging via the eCharge+ app.

As of 22.04.2024, the function of the eCharge+ app to start and control wallboxes that have already been put into operation via the app will no longer be available.

In this case, the eBOX must be set up again using the eConfig app by Compleo.

Plese note: This app for the current eBox generation also works for your eBox from the former manufacturers CCT Abwicklungs GmbH or CCS-Abwicklungs AG. The companies Compleo Charging Solutions GmbH & Co. KG and Compleo Charging Software GmbH will inform you about your options. Technical changes and errors excepted. The companies assume no liability. You have no claim against Compleo Charging Solutions GmbH & Co. KG and Compleo Charging Software GmbH.

eCharge+ can still be used for activation and payment at public charging points.
The installation and operation of private charging points is no longer offered.
Your eBox smart remains smart! All networking options remain the same.
The same applies to the eBox types "professional" and "touch".
The following is no longer possible: authentication via the eCharge+ charging app at the private charging point. Please select an alternative from the options listed here.
It is no longer possible to record, display and send charging data from the eBox. Please select an alternative from the options listed here.

Please switch the eBox fuse in the fuse box of your domestic installation off and on again.

The error persists even though I have already switched the eBox fuse off and on once. My eBox is no longer charging, what can I do? (Commercial charging point, company car charging point)

Are you operating your eBox via a professional charging backend? Then please use the error codes of the backend to analyze the error and restart it. Your situation has nothing to do with the current change. The current change only affects private charging points.
Company car charging points and commercial charging points are not included in the changes! No action needed.

Configuration eBox (private use)

How can I configure my eBox for private charging?
  1. Thanks to its ability to be connected to an OCPP backend, your eBox can react smartly.
For example, use an activation via app.
There are many providers of charging backends.
Both free accounts and low-cost fee-based tariffs are available.
Free accounts are often sufficient for private charging points.
Below you will find examples of two implementations with different providers.
Please select the backend provider that best suits your charging strategy.
Configuration is carried out via the eConfig app(Android: "Business / Commercial"; iOS: "Start configuration").

  2. Alternatively, you can set up your eBox privately for "authentication-free charging".
The configuration is carried out via the eConfig app (Android: "Business / Commercial"; iOS: "Start configuration" - by leaving out the backend info).

With "Authentication-free charging", the charging process starts immediately when the charging cable is plugged in.
There is no activation (authentication) via app, charging card or chip.
    Charging data is not recorded.
At the same time, you can intelligently connect your eBox to a network (e.g. WLAN) to continue performing firmware updates or configurations.

  3. As a third smart option, you can connect your eBox to your own energy management system (if available) via the standard MODBUS protocol and use control and dashboard functions there. You will find explanations on this in the following instructions:
    https://www.compleo-charging.com/fileadmin/Documentcenter/Modbus_eBOX/EN_Quickguide_eBOX_-_Modbus_energy_management_20230814.pdf
How do I select an OCPP backend for private charging?

OCPP (open charge point protocol) is the standard for IT systems that control charging points. Commercial applications should always be connected to a powerful OCPP backend.
Free accounts are often sufficient for private charge points.
Free accounts are available from various providers, as are affordable fee-based tariffs.

We have tested the following two backends for you in the free tariff and connected an eBox smart to them as an example:

  •  Monta
  •  eCarUp
Where can I find the Chargebox ID (identification number, station name...) of my eBox to register it on a backend?

If you connect the eBox to the eConfig app via Bluetooth, you will find the Chargebox ID or identification number in the overview of the current configuration. The information is noted in green at the top center. A fictitious example: "LP00111X" - this would be the identification number you are looking for.

Alternatively, you will find the nameplate imprint on the outside of the eBox (left-hand side in the upper third):
"Serial number" (in our example: LP00111X) is the identification number you are looking for.

Note: This refers to the nameplate imprint on the eBox!
It does NOT refer to the print on the eClick docking station.

Firmware updates

How can I carry out a firmware update for my eBox?

It is advisable to carry out regular firmware updates for the eBox.
In the case of old firmware versions, it is important that you gradually install all intermediate firmware steps before installing the latest version (mandatory). We have provided you with a firmware portal here:

Firmware updates are carried out via an Ethernet cable connection between the eBOX and your computer. The WebConfig instructions show you how to do this:

Which features are no longer available?

I can no longer view/download my charging history for the private charging point.

The eCharge+ app has discontinued the "Private charging" function and the IT system behind it. Charging data prior to 21.04.2024 will remain archived until 30.06.204. Please back up your archive data.

From 22.04.2024, it will no longer be possible to record, display and send charging data from the eBox without a connection to a backend. Please select an alternative (OCPP backend or authorization-free charging) from the options listed here.

I would like to integrate RFID cards for "private charging" again.

This function is no longer available in the eCharge+ app since March 25, 2024.

Please select an OCPP backend provider (free or fee-based) according to your requirements for the use of RFID cards.

Does Compleo offer a comparable service today?

Currently, Compleo does not offer home charging solutions.

All current Compleo charging stations and wallboxes are optimized for commercial applications and enable semi-public and public charging. Commercial charging infrastructure should always be connected to a professional backend.

Which backends are compatibe with the eBOX series?

All wallboxes in the eBOX series can be operated in a network. The connection can be made either to a backend or via Modbus to an energy management system (EMS).

A list of providers that have been successfully connected to the eBOX series can be found on the eBOX product page. It is through smart networking that an eBOX becomes more than just a socket.
